What a lead costs per booked job.
A cheap lead isn’t cheap if it never turns into work. Compare up to three places you buy leads from. See what each one costs for every job you actually win, and what’s left of the job’s profit after you pay for it.
- Cost per booked job is the cost per lead divided by the share of leads that turn into paying work. You pay for the ones that don’t book too.
- Gross margin is what’s left of the price after labor and materials. The lead is paid out of that, not out of the whole price.
- Use a few months of real numbers if you have them. One good week can make any source look great.

The verdict
Source B keeps the most per job: $396 after paying for the lead.
- Source C loses $240 on every job it books. The lead costs more than the job’s gross profit.
All sources together, each month: 82 leads, 19.5 booked jobs, $5,450 spent and $4,608 gross profit left after lead costs.
The math: cost per booked job = cost per lead ÷ share that book. Kept per job = average job × gross margin − cost per booked job. Source A: $55.00 ÷ 15% = $366.67, and $1,100 × 45% − $366.67 = $128.33. Source B: $50.00 ÷ 30% = $166.67, and $1,250 × 45% − $166.67 = $395.83. Source C: $150.00 ÷ 25% = $600.00, and $900 × 40% − $600.00 = −$240.00. Your numbers never leave this page.
